Wt popularity (general topic)

Added by Michelle Dupuis almost 5 years ago

Having worked with Wt for a few weeks now I'm getting my head around the product and capabilities. It feels like a serious WOW type of product.

Based on comments on sites like StackOverflow I'm wondering how popular Wt is. Any idea how many users? How many commercial products built in Wt?

We've used a variety of products for webdev (eg: Angular) and there is just no comparison for single page applications. Wt seems pretty amazing. Granted, I'm still early on in learning Wt, but unless I hit a major wall I can't imagine going back to any other web development platform.

Just thinking...it kind of feels like Wt is a jewel that the world hasn't discovered...for some strange reason...and I can't figure out why Wt isn't HUGELY popular.

I agree. Maybe I can think of two reasons WT isn't bigger than I would expect: 1) it requires knowledge of C, and (much less sure about this one) 2) it doesn't have as many stated features.

I think about 90% of WT's value is: I can get divs and spans into a browser. The rest I can take care of through CSS, and maybe javascript. This isn't how most of the world thinks, though! WT isn't a .net-framework-sized framework, so it doesn't have a mile-long list of features. (I also wouldn't call it a bare-bones framework, though that's how I generally use it: I don't use bootstrap, layouts, WTemplate, etc.)

I use React (and redux) a lot, and I fully agree that there is no comparison. Wt has a bit of a learning curve, but come to think of it, probably not more than React. Once that is mastered, it really sings.

Cheers!

You should open a separate topic for this inquiry. In the meantime, is your wordpress blog performing poorly? If so, what part? Are you database~~, processor~~, network-, or something-else-bound?

WT can help if you're processor-bound and can do better than wordpress with regards to memory usage. Blogs tend not to have high demands placed on them unless they're tremendously popular, so PHP is typically good enough.

its not performance issue. i am not happy with the new changes wp bringing. since i am a c programmer thinking of using wt to build a blogging app.

can you share some example big web sites built with wt?

It can certainly be done, and I would think it would be rather easy. It would not be easy to create the plugin and post-editing structure that wordpress has created. Certainly possible, but highly laborious.

My WT sites are relatively small.
